INTERVIEW: William Munday(University of Sheffield)

Q1. What are the benefits of studying abroad through the AGILE program?

So I’d say there’s two main benefits for studying with the AGILE program.

I’d say the first one is you’ll have the opportunity to take part in lots of social events, studying abroad can be quite intimidating, especially when you go somewhere where you don’t know anyone and the opportunity to mingle with and meet people that you usually might be too scared to meet or wouldn’t have the opportunity to meet is a very nice thing.

The second one I would say is taking part in a variety of different events.
So far we’ve taken part in quite a few things that I wouldn’t usually do and they’ve got me outside of my comfort zone and that’s a good thing, giving me more self-confidence.

Q2. Any advice for those considering studying abroad through the AGILE program?

I would say just do it.

I think just get stuck in, take part in as many things as you can, just say yes to absolutely everything because you’re only gonna benefit from doing them.

Q3. Any other experiences through the AGILE program you’d like to share freely?

One of the things that we’ve done so far is we had to do a speech in front of around 50 people, an audience of 50 people introducing our home university.

And I’m not a good public speaker. I would say I’m quite nervous when I do that.

But once again, getting out so tired of my comfort zone is really, I can tell already that I’ve improved at public speaking just through two months of taking part in the program.

Q4. What do you want to do and hope to achieve through the AGILE program during your study abroad?

I’d just like to continue taking part in the kind of things that I’ve taken part in so far and once again, just gain more self-confidence and have the opportunity to meet even more people.

At the moment, we’re taking part in an online course with people from not only Japan, but other countries like India and Laos.

And yeah, just meeting more people.
